Yong Joo Ahn Center for Precision Medicine, Section on Molecular Medicine, Department of Internal Medicine Wake Forest School of Medicine Biography Publications Institution JoVE Articles Yong Joo AhnYong Joo Ahn, M.D. Yong Joo Ahn is an assistant professor in the section on Molecular Medicine and the Department of Internal Medicine, Wake Forest School of Medicine in Winston-Salem, North Carolina. He obtained his M.D. from Kyung Hee University School of Medicine, Seoul, South Korea. He completed residency training in the Department of Pediatrics, Kyung Hee Medical Center.During his post-doctoral fellow (2009-2014) at Brigham and Women’s Hospital and Massachusetts General Hospital, he studied the endothelial and neuronal specific role of protein kinases in the ischemic stroke animal models and targeting platelet-specific Tsc1 and mTOR signaling in arterial thrombosis using conditional knockout animal models. After he joined Dr. Asmis group in 2015, he has focused on the role of metabolically stressed monocyte and macrophage in atherosclerosis, obesity, diabetes mellitus, and aging. Dr. Ahn’s research interests are single cell protein analysis and metabolic reprogramming of monocyte and macrophages from mouse, non-human primates, to human.
