Een pan-Lyssavirus geneste omgekeerde transcriptie polymerase chain reactie is ontwikkeld om specifiek te detecteren alle bekende lyssaviruses. Validatie met behulp van rabiës hersenen monsters van verschillende diersoorten bleek dat deze methode een gevoeligheid en specificiteit gelijkwaardig is aan de gouden standaard fluorescerende antilichaam test en kan worden gebruikt voor routine hondsdolheid diagnose heeft.
