Neurale Stammzellen wurden aus dem Hippocampus von erwachsenen, nicht überwinternde einjährige Arctic Erdhörnchen (AGS) aufgestellt. Diese neuralen Stammzellen können durch zahlreiche Passagen erweitert werden, differenziert und gepflegt wie ein fast 50:50 Neuron zu Gliazellen Kultur.
