Digitale holografische microscopie (DHM) is een volumetrische techniek waarmee imaging monsters die 50-100 X dikker dan helderveld microscopie bij vergelijkbare resolutie, met scherpstellen uitgevoerd na verwerking. Hier DHM wordt gebruikt voor het identificeren, tellen, en bijhouden van micro-organismen bij zeer lage dichtheden en vergeleken met metingen van de optische dichtheid, kiemgetal, en directe.
