Le protocole décrit un nouveau modèle murin in vivo d’infection par implant rachidien où un implant k-wire en acier inoxydable est infecté par Staphylococcus aureus Xen36 bioluminescent. La charge bactérienne est surveillée longitudinalement par imagerie bioluminescente et confirmée par le nombre d’unités formant colonie après euthanasie.
