Den nuværende protokol beskriver isoleringen af fykobiliomer fra cyanobakterier ved centrifugering gennem en diskontinuerlig saccharosetæthedsgradient. Fraktioner af intakte phycobilisomes bekræftes af 77K fluorescerende emissionsspektrum og SDS-PAGE analyse. De resulterende fykobilisome fraktioner er velegnede til negativ farvning af TEM og massespektrometri analyse.
