In het cocultuursysteem van dorsale wortelganglia en Schwann-cellen kan myelinisatie van het perifere zenuwstelsel worden bestudeerd. Dit model biedt experimentele mogelijkheden om perifere myelinisatie te observeren en te kwantificeren en om de effecten van interessante verbindingen op de myelineschede te bestuderen.
