Het gepresenteerde protocol beschrijft een facile chirurgische verwijdering van de appendix (caecal patch) in een muis gevolgd door de inductie van inflammatoire darmziekte-geassocieerde colorectale kanker. Dit Murine appendectomie model maakt onderzoek mogelijk naar de biologische rol van de appendix in de pathogenese van menselijke gastro-intestinale aandoeningen.
